Topic: AirTrafficControl | Support / Again SnowLeopard

Yep – it just crashes before it has even loaded for the first time. This happens everytime I try and run the widget (the beta version). The older version does nothing apart from sit in my Dash – nothing at all. I used to love this app on my old iBook – it was probably the most used app in my dash!!!

Should we expect this to be fixed or should we look else where?

Thanks,

I had the same experience: trying to install AirTraffic Control in SnowLeopard, Dashboard crashes.

Topic: AirTrafficControl | Support / Snow Leopard?

Just a quick question/note. Is ATC 2.1 compatible with OS X 10.6 (snow leopard). It seems to crash when it tries to load for me.

Topic: AirTrafficControl | Development / Base Station IDs

I would love to see the names or IP addresses of the base stations. Both my home and work networks include multiple base stations for the same wireless network. ATC displays the network name, and there is no way for me to distinguish between the various base stations.

vendor code 001E52 is an Apple Airport Extreme. I have two that are reporting this vendor code.

Topic: AirTrafficControl | Support / Signal Strength Dropout

I am running Leopard and ATC had been working perfectly until this evening 1/6/08 when the reading went to 1 or 2. The internet speed does not seem to have diminished a whole lot . My version is 2.1.0b500 which appears to be the latest. I have restarted Airport a couple of times, rebooted and no improvement except for a brief moment when it was at 99 (which has been the norm in this environment).

Is this a Leopard issue?

Alan

Try this, the missing ip address application, that sits in the menu bar and actually tells if you are connected or not-

Topic: AirTrafficControl | Support / Add an option to display the speed numerically?

Yeah. We keep hearing this. There is a plan in place but I needed to get you something as ATC was horribly broken in Leopard.

Expect the number to return in a week or so. Hopefully with some sort of cool graphic.

I tried to send it via e-mail, but it was flagged as spam…

Topic: AirTrafficControl | Support / Add an option to display the speed numerically?

Hi There,

Thanks for a cool product, however one feature request that I would like is to see the connected speed numerically. I know that this used to be the default from the 1.2 screenshots, but I would love an option to still use that skin, or preferably, the current with a number instead of the meter.

Cheers,

Topic: AirTrafficControl | Support / Know Issues for ATC 2.1.0B500

There are a couple of issues that we are working on, including:

  • self restriction doesn’t notice that it needs to make new entries in the auth system after the upgrade to Leopard.
  • auto-update only works for the vendor list.
  • scanning for closed networks should clear the network list and place the system in scan mode. (maybe we are debating this)
  • everyone wants the speed numbers back instead of the speed gauge.
  • you can’t connect to a network that has an apostrophe in it’s name (ie. “Bob’s Network”)
  • if a connection fails it can claim your password is bad even if it was for another reason.
  • all passwords (even those that don’t work) are stored in the keychain when an attempting to connect to a network. (again, this might stay – why would you try random passwords on random networks…)

We intend to resolve these issues within the next week or so and will post the final version of ATC 2.1.

We have just release ATC 2.1.0B500. Grab it in the AirTrafficControl downloads area.

Topic: AirTrafficControl | Support / ATC old version stuck in the Trash

You’ll be able to delete it once you reboot your computer. It is likely still running a thread inside ATC which is designed to reduce processor load by updating in the background.

When you reboot the thread will be killed and you should be able to delete it.

Which version were you running that caused the issue?

This is mildly to highly annoying;

I’ve just updated ATC with the new version 2.01 b400 and when I try to delete the old version my MacBook (bless it’s digital soul) tells me that ‘The operation cannot be completed because the item ’’Air TraficControl’’ is in use.’ (Stop) (Continue)

(long pause)

O_o

Being a virgo and therefore prone to bouts of panic attack when stuff isn’t all neat, tidy and in it’s proper place this is bugging the bejesus out of me…

Have a pleasant day!

Topic: AirTrafficControl | Support / Signal Strength

Here is some info on SNR = Signal to Noise Ratio

The calculation is basically percent of total possible signal. It needs some work but the general idea is that anything more than about 55 should allow you to get a full 54MB/s out of a 802.11G connection.

Topic: AirTrafficControl | Development / WPA Enterprise

While it is in the realm of possibility, it is definitely not slated for inclusion in the next version. Currently we can’t see the difference between WPA and WPA Enterprise so that would have to be the first step…

Topic: AirTrafficControl | Support / Signal Strength

What exactly is the signal strength comprised of on the ATC program?

Right now I am connected to an AP and ATC says I have a level 62 signal strength.

However, using the airport utility built into the Mac through the terminal I have a signal of 56, a noise of 96 and a subsequent SNR (which is the most important) of 40.

Topic: AirTrafficControl | Development / WPA Enterprise

Is there a chance that there will be a way to connect to WPA Enterprise networks with Air Traffic Control? I know if you click on a specific AP you can enter a password, but it would be great if it would take the 802.1x profile out of keychain and apply it.

Topic: AirTrafficControl | Support / identify Mac-compatible hotspots ?

Interesting request. We will think about this.

It might be possible to detect this sort of thing and warn you, it might also be possible to create a list of bad routers.

It definitely won’t make it into the next release though – we don’t have the resources to even think about it for a couple of weeks are we are working on some new stuff.

Topic: AirTrafficControl | Support / identify Mac-compatible hotspots ?

Just discovered ATC. Wanting to know if this would have prevented following concern and/or made it easier to solve:

Airport (orignal) and laptop have worked all WiFi spots, except one. At that location, all indication on laptop was “connected” – but unable to DO anything that required internet access. After much troubleshooting [including via Help Desk], have concluded that the location is probably not Mac-friendly (older router?), e.g., rather than particular locations in building were problematic. (Given that it is a public facility – a public hospital – is there any reasonable fix ? And/or reasonable suggestion re how to “encourage” them to “wake up” i.e, to upgrade to newer, Mac-friendly router”?)

Would AirTraffic Control (current, beta, or future) identify whether a WiFi spot is Mac-accessible? Easily? It sure would be nice to know, right away (and easily), “you can’t get there from here” when that is the situation.

If this feature is planned for future version: request backwards compatibility for those with equipment limited to non-extreme AirPort (also non-Apple-cards that work in Macs) and/or limited to OS 10.4.1.

Thanks.
